Edward's younger brother George Vandever (1764-1833) served in RW Warin
Va, he came to SC locating near his brother in 1783. Here he met and
married Mary Ann Poole (c1758-1838), daughter of Adam Poole (c
1731-1798/99) and older sister to Edward's last wife Catherine Poole
(1765-1851).
Adam Poole Vandiver was born in Fairfield District SC 1788 was George
Vandever (1764-1833) oldest son. Adam P. Vandiver moved to Ga ca 1810where
all his children were born (none born in SC) which includes George V.
Vandiver b 1812, actually Adam located on what was still Indian landand
was to become Habersham Co Ga in 1818. George Vandever (1764-1833)'s
youngest son Enoch George Vandiver married Nancy Bates, d/o StephenBates,
they moved to Cherokee Co Ga ca 1834 and then in 1852 moved to Ark.
William Vandiver born 1790 (s/o Edward) is not a Jr. I could notrecognize
your description of William born bet 1700 &1710, d 1760/1780 to fitany of
the Vandivers that I have located, none were in SC before EdwardVandiver
(1748-1837) who came between Aug 1778 (when he and his wife Helenasold
property in Loudoun Co Va) and Mar 1779 ( when Mary Ann PooleVandiverr,
wife of George Vandever gave a statement in support of EdwardVandiver's RW
pension application reported seeing Edward take leave ofhis wife atthe
Meeting House to serve in Rev. War).
Besides Edward, George Vandever (1764-1833) came to SC in 1783,John
Vandiver (1754-1839) of Spartenburg District SC came to SC in 1791,
Hollingsworth Vandever (1730-1820) came to SC ca 1792. These are themain
ancestors of the Vandivers found in SC. There was the mention of aPeter
Vandiver in the Charleston, SC ca 1800 but I have not located where he
remained and left descendants in SC.
George Vandiveer d 1764 Loudoun Co Va was the son of George Vandevourwho
died 1759 Kent Co Del.
BTW I use the spelling of Vandiver most often used/located in the
individual's records.
I hope this inforamtion will help

Hi Joel
Thanks for the referral to Cornelia Barton; she seems quite completeexcept on
the Alabama Vandivers. But perhaps she knows of the material atAnniston since
she mentions Wellington. There is one Vandiver in the phone book therebut I
didn't call. I suspect there are more in Talladega, which is whereWellington
lived. He & his son Almuth tried for years to get the lineage linesstraight
but ran into the same difficulties we're facing. I gathered theyconcluded
that a George and John went from Hampshire Co, West VA to Surry Co,NC, which
at the time was also Salisbury District, then on to Spartanburg. We'rehaving
the same trouble with Henry Emerson, of which there seems to be a Jrand Sr in
the 1790 census, and a James who was the father/grandfather, also inSalisbury
District. I think the county and state divisions were unclear backthen.
It's not easy to distinguish between John the first and the second,if the
elder died in 1839 and the younger in 1843. As to where John isburied,
somewhere it says on his own property, where the town of Clifton, SCis now.
That's on the Pacolet north of Glendale, which is on Lawsons FordCreek not
the Pacolet. Joey (whom we met at the library) told us about some oldgraves
out on Cannons Campground Rd on some private property but we didn'tfind them.
He said you wouldn't notice them unless you knew where to look. Wefound the
new Cannons Campground Church though, and in the back they have anopen air
covered meeting hall that commemorates the original revivalcampground.
There's lots of familiar names in the graveyard but the dates are allafter
the civil war. We followed the road on down to where it crosses thePacolet
and there's an old mill there too.
I'm looking at the map and if we had continued on the road pastGlendale we
would have eventually run into Clifton. I also see Peters Creek whichis
mentioned; it enters the river from the left, just south of whereCannons
Campground Rd crosses it. Cannons Campground Rd eventually crosses Rt110, or
Battleground Rd which takes you either to Cowpens town or the MilitaryPark. I
don't see a Stony Creek or a Harican Branch; but there's a SouthPacolet which
runs into Lake William Bowen. Well, maybe we'll get back again toexplore.
Haven't yet contacted the person working on the Cannon history, haveyou?
Still trying to make sense of what we have collected. The Vandiversmention an
Ellis Cannon as brother-in-law to John, or could it be Winney'sfather? (I am
spelling it as on her grave in Alexandria, Al) Her daughter SusanVandiver (b
July 4, 1812-June 5, 1855) is buried there beside her sister andmother, but
her gravestone doesn't mention her as a Mathis although there is aMathis
family right next to the Emersons. The Nancy Vandiver MCClellan(another
sister) and Elisha McClellan may also be in this cemetery, as Inoticed the
McClellan name, but a later letter says their graves are on a state
experimental farm. The land appears to be excellent farmland.
