Biography

Charles Vanover Sr. is the descendant of a New Netherland settler.

Charles Vanover Sr. of Raleigh, North Carolina and formerly of Williamsburg, Kentucky departed this life on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at his home. He was 95 years, 8 months and 11 days of age. He was born on August 8, 1918 in Whitley County, Kentucky to the late Finley Vanover and Sylvia Mae Edmonds Vanover. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Broyles Vanover and a son, Charles Vanover Jr. He was a veteran of the United States Army Having served during World War II and Korea.

He is survived by his two granddaughters, Christine Spencer (Lee) of Garner, North Carolina and Susan Vanover-Kingdon (Christopher) of Long Branch, New Jersey; daughter-in-law, Virginia Vanover of Raleigh North Carolina; one great grandchild, Olivia Spencer of Garner, North Carolina; two brothers, W.F. Vanover (Gerri) of Williamsburg, Kentucky and Bob Vanover of Texas; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends to mourn his passing.

The Funeral Service will be at 1:00 P.M. Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerome McCullah officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Davis Addition of Highland Park Cemetery in Williamsburg. Military Graveside Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #88 of Corbin, Kentucky.
