Roger Vaughan of Porthaml was the son of Sir Roger of Tretower.[1][2]
"The Vaughan family of Porthaml was a cadet branch of the Vaughans of Tretower, Breconshire, themselves an offshoot of the line established at Bredwardine, Herefordshire, by the Sir Roger Vaughan who was killed at Agincourt."[3]

Roger Vaughan was born in Porthaml Talgarth, Breconshire, Wales about 1436[4] to Sir Roger Vaughan (c1404-July 26, 1469) and his wife "Denise fil Thomas" ap Philip Vaughan.[5]
About 1469, he married Jane Whitney. She was the daughter of Sir Robert Whitney, Sheriff of Herefordshire and Constance Touchet,[5] daughter of Sir James Tuchet, Lord Audley.[2][1][6]
"13. Joan Whitney, daughter by her father's 1st marriage. She married Roger Vaughan, Knt., of Porthaml (in Talgarth), Breconshire, Wales, Steward and Receiver of the Lordship of Dinas, 1509, 2nd son of Roger Vaughan, Knt., of Tretower, Breconshire, by his 1st wife, Denise, daughter of Thomas ap Philip Vaughan of Tyle-Glas."[1]
Sir Roger and Joan had 8 children. He also had three illegitimate sons.[2][7] Children are listed below with information and in the order shown by Bartrum[8]
Elinor m (1) Tos. Gwyn ap Rhydderch, (2) Hywel ap Gwilym, (3) Wm Dometh[8]

↑Lewis has marriage of Joan & Sir Roger as about 1469, which is probably a contract date. Whitney group has Joan as born "say 1462". Lewis shows Elizabeth (2nd-born per Drymbenog 2(C3) Bartrum) as b 1485, which works with 1462 birth. That just leaves the 1436 birth of Sir Roger of Porthaml given by Lewis in need of verification.

Vaughan-528 and Vaughan-187 appear to represent the same person because: just finished research/editing for the profile of Vaughan-528 for Roger, husband of Joan Whitney. These profiles are for the same person. Please merge. Thanks!
update - text that referred to a son born to a different Roger Vaughan was moved to the profile page of the mistress who had the son: Ieuan-11
Also, text says Joan Trahaern had a son by him. Joan Trahaern was the mistress of Roger Trewtowr d 1471, who was the father of the Roger who married Joan Whitney. So... there's some messiness here to be sorted out.
(See Bartrum's page on the ancestry of the mistress of the dad - Batrum spells it Traehaearn, if I'm seeing that right: Cydrych 8)
Data fields seem to support RJ's note that he needs to be merged with his dad:
Bartrum has Joan Whitney m Roger Vn of Portham - Drymbenog C3, and Roger Vaughan of Portham as son of Sir Roger of Tretwr, d 1471 C1 (who is son of Sir Roger who married daughter of Sir David Gam - see Drymbenog 2). There is some conflict among sources concerning the Whitneys (see Whitney Family Tree), but I think we're beginning to get the Vaughans straightened out.
Joan Whitney, married Roger Vaughan. They had four sons, and four daughters. He also had three illegitimate sons.
Thank you!
