David was born to John and Gillian Vaughan in Newport, Rhode Island July 19, 1646.[1][2] He was christened by the Society of Friends on April 27, 1652.[3] He married a woman named Mary (not Mott) who had a second husband, Thomas Joslin after David's death.[4]
Sometime before 1670 David moved to Portsmouth, Rhode Island where he was admitted a freeman.[5]
He purchased land there in 1676 and executed a will on March 21, 1677/8.[1]
David and Mary had a least one son who was named in David's will proved May 26, 1678. He bequeathed "my Indian boay called Sam" and the use of his property to Mary until his son John turns age 21. [1]
