The linked father, WILLIAM VAUGHAN, wrote his last Will and Testament in 1692; therefore, a William Vaughan born in 1760 could not be his child. There is already a son WILLIAM VAUGHAN, Jr. with a credible birth date of 1652.

Biography

WILLIAM VAUGHAN of Charles City County, Virginia who was the son of WILLIAM VAUGHAN of the same place would have been at least age 21 in 1692 when WILLIAM VAUGHAN wrote his Last Will and Testament on 24 March 1692. WILLIAM left a legacy to his son, WILLIAM. The will read:

"land I am now possessed with to be equally divided amongst my seven sonns, WILLIAM, RICHARD, JOHN, SAMUEL, DANIEL, JAMES and NICHOLAS VAUGHAN and each to have his part next and adjoyning to the plantation they are seated on...give to my sonn JAMES one trading gunn which he now uses and one gunn called musgueran...sonn JAMES one heifer called star with all her increase..."[1]

William Vaughan also named the following grandchildren by his son William Vaughan in his will: William Vaughan, Mary Vaughan, Julia Vaughan & Elisabeth Vaughan. The will suggests that WILLIAM would have been over the age of 21 in 1692 given that it stated, " adjoyning to the plantation they are seated on." A stipulation was not made in the will stating when they reach the age of 21.

On 15 Oct 1698, RICHARD and his brother, WILLIAM received a land grant for 281 acres in Charles City County, Virginia on the west side of Muncusneck Main Swamp for the transportation of six persons into the colony.[2] [3] The Abstract of Land Patents for Charles City County, Virginia recorded the grant as:

WILLIAM & RICHARD VAUGHAN, 281 acs. Chas. City Co. in Bristoll Par. on W. side of Moncuse Neck Maine SW., adj. THOMAS LOW, on HATCHER's Run, (date black), p. 149. Trans. of 6 pers: JNO BULL, ELIZ. PAIN, DICK, TOM, NAN, PETRO, Negroes. Note: "Not signed. Mr. Ligon, the Surveyor, saying he believed it was upon or over the line between the English & Indians."[4]

In 1703 Prince George County, Virginia was formed from Charles City County, Virginia.[5]

The 1704 Prince George County Quit Rent Rolls recorded Jno' Vaughan, 169 acres; Sam'l Vaughan, 169 acres; Dan'l Vaughan, 169 acres; James Vaughan, 169 acres; Rich'd Vaughan, 309 acres; Wm. Vaughan, 309 acres; and Nich'o Vaughan, 169 acres. Note: The 169 acres was 1/7 of the land owned by William Vaughan at his death. William Vaughan and Richard were jointly patented 281 acres bringing their total acreage to 309 acres.[6]

14 Apr, 1719. James Vaughan late of Bristol Parish, Prince George County sold to Cornelius Fox 169 acres called the Boyling Spring for 25£. Witnessed by Edward Prince and Joseph Simmons.
