Deed of Elizabeth Vaught, Wife of Simeon, to James Wilborn. February 20, 1821. Muhlenberg County. Whereas my husband Simeon Vaught in his life time to wit on the 4th day of March 1822 conveyed to James Wilborn two hundred acres of land lying in Muhlenberg County on the waters of Priors Creek as will more fully appear by Reference to said deed now of Record in the clerks office of said county court and whereas I Elizabeth Vaught now the widder but then the wife of said Simeon Vaught did then acknowledge before the clerk all my Right & title of dower in & to said tract of land which appears to have been omitted on the Record and whereas my wish is to comply with the Requisitions of the law in Such cases I do now declare my willingness to complete the title to said land & hereby relinquish all my Right & title of dower in & to the said premises & am willing that the same mmdy(?) so be entered of Record witness my hand and seal this 27th day of Febrary 1849.   • Simeon Vaught, born Abt. 1781 in Pennsylvania; died 1845 in Muhlenberg County, KY; married Elizabeth Zimmerman Dec 1799 in Muhlenberg County, KY.
  • SIMEON VAUGHT succeeded Thomas Downs, as clerk of Hazle Creek church, in 1814, and filled that position till 1836. He was a messenger from his church to Gasper River Association, at least twenty-three times. Late in life, the good old brother was ordained to the ministry, and although

possessing small talent, doubtless accomplished some good in the Master's vineyard. He was pastor of Nelson Creek church, a short time, including the year 1837. [7]

  • Will of Elizabeth Zimmerman Vaught 1844, wife of Simeon. Vaught, Elizabeth, In the name of God Amen. I Elizabeth Vaught being weak in body but of sound memory, do on the 2nd day of October 1843, make this my last will & tes tament. As follows to wit. I give & bequeath to my grandchildren the heirs of Francis S. Vaught, namely John S. Vaught, William M. Vaught, Susan Vaught and Elizabeth Vaught all my property now in the hands of Francis S. Vaught my agent to divide among them as they may think but for their own satisfaction. In witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand & seal. Signed Sealed and delivered in the presents of Simeon Vaught, Simon Vaught. Signed Elizabeth Vaught Muhlenberg County Qt, February County Court 1844. The foregoing last will & testament of Elizabeth Vaught deceased was exhibited into court & proved to be the last will & testament of the said Elizabeth Vaught by the Oaths of Simeon Vaught and Simon Vaught. Subscribing witnesses thereto which is ordered to be recorded. Att. Ch.F.Wing Clk. [8]
