Event: Birth Source. Jeneane Moeller, 1151 N Grove Dr, Alpine, UT 84004. Death Source. 8 MAY 1778. Deed, Book F, p68 ... what county? ... J Moeller 1151 N. Grove Dr, Alpine, UT.
Note: Simon VAUGHT was killed by Indians "upon Bald Eagle Creek," Pennsylvania, on May 8, 1778. In deed, Book F, page 68 (what county?) Christian VAUGHTs children (Gilbert, Margaret, William and Christina) conveyed to their brother John VAUGHT, on January 16, 1781, land owned by Christian and Simon VAUGHT. Presumably, that would be Simon's share in his father's estate ... thus, Christian VAUGHTs son Simon cannot be the Simon VAUGHT who was in the Shenandoah County, Virginia, 1782 tax record ... (Research notes of Pearl O. Smith).
This info can be found in the book ... The Genesis of Mifflin County, Pennsylvania by John Martin Stroup and Raymond Martin Bell, 1939, p37 ... it says that Simon Vaught (Waugh) was killed on 8 May 1778 at the home of Jones (Jonas) Davis, upon Bald Eagle Creek. I have found no leads to prove the parents of this Simon. Others have said this Simon Waugh was listed at Derry Township freeman, unmarried, in 1778. Another researcher insists this Simon was the son of Christian and Hannah (Crum) Vaught. I do not disagree that this is possible, but I have not found enough evidence ... (Research notes of Linda Vaught Whitmer, 107 Harmon Place, Stephens City, VA 22655).
The following is from Stroup & Bell's ... The Pioneers of Mifflin Co, PA, P21 ... VAUGH (VOIGHT, WAUGH) ...
Simon ... taxed as freeman (unmarried) 1785-1789 ... Served in 8th Battalion.
Brothers Valley is in Bedford Co., PA and according to the PA archives Gilbert and John Vaught (Vought) were warranted land in Bedford Co. in 1784 ... both had taxable property in Huntingdon Co. in 1788, but were non-residents ... Simon and Christian are mentioned in the book "Two Centuries in Brothers Valley" as going to Virginia.
Saturday, May 9, Col. Arthur Buchanan wrote from "Old Town, Juniata" (Lewistown) to George Stewart (Tuscarora): "I this moment recd by Robert Moor (Moore) Express, a Letter from Capn Bell, stationed at Bauld Eagle Which informs me that Simon Vaught (Waugh), one of his company was killed on the 8th. Instant, at the house of Jones (Jonas) Davis, upon Bald Eagle Creek." (Penna. Archives, Series 1, Vol. 6, p. 485).
