Biography

Pieter was a son of Symon Volkertse Veeder and his wife Engeltje, probably born in Schenectady, New York.[1]

He married Neeltie, daughter of Claas Van der Volgen and Maritie Swart, on June 17, 1704 in the Reformed Dutch Church of Schenectady.[2][3][4][5] Three children were born to the marriage:[6][7]

  1. Simon (Symon) Veeder,[8] baptized December 30, 1704.
  2. Maria (Maritie) Veeder, born on Nov 29, 1706; married Johannes Vedder; died on March 27, 1731.
  3. Pieter Veeder, baptized in Albany, New York, on June 26, 1709.

P(i)eter made his will on August 31, 1708 and signed it as Pieter Symonsen of Rensselaerwyck Colony. The will mentioned his wife Neeltie and two children, Symon and Maritie. The will was not proved until July 27, 1730.[7][9]

He is thought to have died before June 26, 1709, when his youngest child was baptized. [6][7]

After looking up multiple versions of his marriage record (apparently the earliest record for him), I am changing his LNAB to Vedder. The different transcripts disagree on other details, but they agree on Vedder.
