Virginia was the oldest of three daughters of Albert and Dorothy Gray Vieg.[1][2]
Virginia was working as a telephone company operator when she was 20 years old.[3] She married Bruce Carpenter when she was 21.[4] She was a teacher in the Kalamazoo Public Schools for 21 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of League of Women Voters, Interfaith Strategy for Advocacy & Action in the Community, Kalamazoo County Democratic Party, Public Citizen and Habitat for Humanity[5]
Virginia died at age 88.
