Biography

Marie Josèphe Viger, daughter of François Viger and Marie Mius, was born 23 May 1703 in Acadia, and was baptized two years later on 21 May 1705 in Port Royal, Acadia.^[1][2]

She married Martin CORPORON c.1718 in Acadia^[1]. Known children of the marriage:

1. Marie CORPORON (1719)
2. Francoise CORPORON (1720)
3. Jean CORPORON (1727)
4. Marie Josephe Marguerite CORPORON (c.1729/1731)
5. Marie Anne CORPORON (1735)
6. Jean Charles CORPORON (c.1737)
7. Gregoire CORPORON (1738)

Martin died between 1739 and 1749.

She married Paul Benoit on 27 July 1750. ^[3][4][1] They were counted on the census in 1752, at Grande Ascension, Isle St. Jean, Acadia with 9 children. ^[1][5] They were among the Acadians at Isle St. Jean during le grand dérangement who were to be deported to France aboard the ill-fated Duke William.

She died 13 December 1758 when the Duke William sank during the crossing to France.^[1]

   Paul Benoist, ploughman, native of l'Acadie, aged 48 years, he had been in the country two years. Married to Marie Vinet, widow of the late Corporon, native of l'Acadie, aged 43 years. They have three sons and six daughters:-

   Jean Charles Corporon, aged 19 years.

   Antoine Benoist, aged 11 years.

   Jean Benoist, aged 9 years.

   Josette Benoist, aged 9 years.

   Françoise, aged 17 years.

   Marie, aged 15 years.

   Elixabeth, aged 13 years.

   Rose, aged 7 years.

   Collastique, aged 5 years.

   In stock they have three oxen, four cows, one calf, and six pigs. The land upon which they are settled is situated on the west point of the Grande Ascension. It was given to them by the Monsieur de Bonnaventure. On said land they have made a clearing for the sowing of twelve bushels of grain during the coming spring.
