Obituary

The memorial mass for Josephine Hughes will be at 11:00 am Thursday August 24, 2017 at Resurrection Catholic Church in Rochester with Rev. Peter Schuster officiating. Burial Will be in Calvary Cemetery in Rochester. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church on Thursday.

Mrs. Hughes, 90, of Rochester, died Tuesday August 8, 2017 at Golden Living Center East in Rochester.

Jo was born December 27, 1926 in Chicago to Anton and Anne Slavik Vihnicka. Her family later moved to Dodge Center, MN. where she graduated from Dodge Center High School.

Jo married Earl D. “Jack” Hughes In Dodge Center, MN. And the couple later moved to Rochester.

Jo worked in the cancer registry dept. at the Mayo Clinic until her retirement.

She was a charter member of Resurrection Catholic Church. She was very involved in her church and loved to garden, cook, bake and arrange flowers.

Josephine is survived by her daughter Alanna Owens of Rochester. Four grandchildren, Anna and Samantha Hughes, Jacob (Sarah) Junge, and Sarah (Dirk) Eichler. Her great grandchildren Brendan and Nicholas Junge, and Paul and Madelynn Eichler also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband two sons William and Thomas Hughes and her daughter Deborah Junge. Her sister Anne Vihnicka and brother Anthony “Tony” Vihnicka and niece Julie Vihnicka also preceded her in death.

Josephine’s family would like to thank Dr. Hogan, Tom, Darci, and Jen in the hematology dept at Mayo Clinic for their care over the years.
