John Vincent was born about 1834 in Lelant, Cornwall. John Vincent’s father was Charles Vincent and mother Mary Bryant.
John Vincent was baptized 21 September 1834, St Uny Parish register, Lelant, Cornwall. Father Charles Vincent, miner of Regean, mother Mary. [1][2][3]
John Vincent, bachelor age 20 miner, married Mary Ann Reed, spinster age 20 of Lelant, 18 Aug 1855, St Uny Parish Register, Lelant, Cornwall. Grooms father Charles Vincent, miner, Brides father William Reed, miner. Witnessed by William Reed and James Jennings.
John Vincent marriage to Mary Ann Reed was registered September 1855 in Penzance, Cornwall, England. [4]
The family are originally tin miners from mines around Penzance, Cornwall. When the Tin mines exhausted their supply they closed down and the tin miners left the area in search of work. The Vincent family left Cornwall after 1871 and seem to have tried Lancashire first as seen in the birth of Eliza in Rainford, Lancashire, before settling in the North Yorkshire area before 1881 where the Iron Stones nines were just starting to open. Cornish tin miners must have been in great demand as they were already understood underground mining work.
27 August, 1884, National Burial Index for England and Wales records the burial of a John Vincent at St. Margaret’s Anglican Church, Brotton.
