Biography

Joseph Vincent, son of Pierre Vincent and Marie Granger, was born about 1724.[1] He married first, at Pisiguit, Nouvelle-Écosse in 1754, Marie-Josèphe Daigle.[1]

Joseph married second, at Boston, Massachusetts, 18 Apr 1759, Jeanne Benoit. They married again 20 Sep 1766 at Trois-Rivières, Québec.[1]

After the end of the Seven Years' War in 1763, the Acadians detained in the Anglo-American colonies were finally free to leave. On 1 March 1765, James Murray, Governor of the Province of Quebec, issued a proclamation offering free land to new immigrants. Between 1765 and 1775, 1306 Acadians deported to New England immigrated to Quebec. [2]

Joseph petitioned for a return to Canada on 8 February 1766 for 7 members of the Vincent family. [2] Joseph was also on a list, dated 2 June 1766 in Boston, of French Neutrals wishing to emigrate to Quebec. [3]

Joseph and Jeanne boarded the sloop Polly that left Boston on 21 July 1766 and docked at the port of Quebec City on 31 August 1766. Travelling with them were the children Joseph (age 14), Marguerite (age 11), Françoise (age 6), Pierre (age 4) and Simon (age 2). [2] The first mention of the family in Quebec records was when son Pierre, then age 4, was baptized in Quebec city on 5 September 1766. In October (Marguerite) and November (Simon) these additional children were baptized in Yamamiche.

Eleven months after their arrival, on August 1, 1767, they received a grant (Lot # 1077) in the seigneury of Yamachiche. The contract was notarized by Louis Pillard. [4][2]

Joseph died 18 Dec 1800 at Louiseville, Maskinongé, Lower Canada. He was buried two days later.[1][5] [6]

Vincent-5848 and Vincent-1859 appear to represent the same person because: same name, exact same spouse (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Daigle-108), daughter Marguerite on both profiles with same birth year (should be merged too), same birth year,
