Biography

He was born on 27 July 1785 in Shenandoah Valley, Greenbrier County, Virginia, USA

John Frazier Vincent first married about 1808 in Virginia, USA to Nancy Renick. [1]

John Frazier Vincent married secondly about 1827 in Virginia, USA to Sarah Ellen Hoke [2] (1806–1882).

He was a slaveholder, miller and property owner. He moved his family, possessions and 15 slaves from Virginia, down the Ohio River by steamboat.

In 1846 he bought 3,350 acres on Little Fork between Grayson and Anglin Hitchins. The land was cleared and the settlement became Vincent Switch on EK Railroad.

Four of John's slaves escaped to Ohio to be free. At the end of the Civil War some of the slaves remained working on the Vincent farm.

He purchased 3,500 acres on the Little Sandy River between Grayson and Anglin, which is now Hitchins. When the Eastern Kentucky Railroad was built through Carter County in 1872, this settlement became Vincent Station.

He died in 1854 or 1864 and was buried at Vincent Family Cemetery in Grayson, Carter County, Kentucky, USA. [3]
