Biography

Abraham (Vivier) Viviers has French origins.
Abraham VIVIER van Normandie was 'n Franse Hugenoot wat in 1688 met Zuid Beveland in die Kaap aangekom het vanaf Zierickzee. [1]
Volgens Jean le Roux: word die volgende inligiting oor Abraham Viviers gegee uit Prof. M.Boucher se Boek "French Speakers at the Cape" bl.124 Daar word gemeld dat Abraham gedoop is op 20 Junie 1654, Pierre op 2 Julie 1662 en Jacob op 20 Januarie 1665. Hul ouers was Abraham Vivier en Elisabeth Louvel. Die moeder is in Oktober 1670 oorlede , 40 jaar oud. Hulle was afkomstig van die dorpie Criquetot-l'Esneval en hul kerkie by Le Preche. As bronverwysing gee hy die departementele argief Seine-Maritime RP Criquetot-l'Esneval 1653-1685. [1]
Abraham het hom gevestig te Schoongezicht (1690) en Menin (1714), Daljosafat. Sy twee broers Jacob en Pierre het ook na SA gekom, maar is nooit getroud nie. Abraham was getroud in 1695 met Jacquemina du PREEZ, d/v Hercule en het 4 seuns en 5 dogters nagelaat [1]:

Toe Jacquemina de Pre se man Abraham Vivier gesterwe het, het die jonger suster van Jacquemine en haar man Jacques Theron en Maria Jeanne de Pre die dogters grootgemaak. Die oudste dogter Elisabeth Vivier toe sy sestien was, was sy verlei deur die 26 jarige Chirugyn Charles Prieur du Plessis, die man van haar eie nigge Cecilia van Marseveen. Twee jare later toe Cecilia verwagtend was volg du Plessis weer vir Elisabeth Vivier in die kelder, die berig lees "in de kleder gegaan zijnde om wijn te tappen door du Plessi gevlogt en weder eenmaal vleeslijk bekent". Jacques Theron het toe later 'n brief geskrywe aan de Chavonnes "En ick heb haar gevragh terwijl sij inden arbijt (kraambed) was wie dat die vaeder was, in persense (teenwoordigheid) van desen boeven staende getuijgen, en (sij heeft) niets ander bekent als Saerelt de Plesee" aangehaal in Karel Schoeman, Armosyn van de Kaap p 470. [1]
Hendrik Harmensz van Heesel was in 1713 aangekla dat hy probeer het om vir Maria Vivier te verkrag. Hy was 'n kuiper in Drakenstein en was bekend as 'de Rode Kuiper'. In Augustus het hy 'veelvuldige pogingen' om die dertienjarige Maria te verkrag. Die getuienis van Maria en die slavin Lys van Bengale was nie voldoende vir 'n veroordeling nie. Aangehaal in Karel Schoeman, Armosyn van de Kaap, pp 382, 383. [1]
