Note: Wednesday, December 28, 1994: Chelan - Robert J. Vogler, 98, a 63-year resident of Chelan, died Saturday, Dec. 17, 1994, in Lake Chelan Community Hospital. He was born Sept. 17, 1896, to Henry and Josephine (Gertrum) Vogler, at Rathdrum, Idaho. He moved with his family to Hatton, where he graduated from Hatton High School in 1914. He then attended Washington State College for three years, where he studied electrical engineering. He joined the U.S. Navy on Dec. 6, 1917, and served during World War I. Following his discharge in 1919, he moved to Spokane and then Seattle where he was employed by an electrical contractor. He started working for Washington Water Power in 1922, first at Wilbur, then at Omak, where he managed the office, and then at Chelan, where he was district manager.
He married Dorothy Barnum on June 14, 1931, at Spokane. He worked for Washington Water Power until 1944. He and his wife started Vogler Electric, an electrical wiring and appliance business, which they operated until 1962. Mr. Vogler then worked in real estate with Chelan Realty and was active in orcharding until 1968. He was one of the founders of the Washington State Apple Commission.
Mr. Vogler was a member, past master and secretary of the Chelan Valley Lodge No. 118 F.&A.M., member and past commander of American Legion Post. No. 108, a member and past president of Rotary, and member and commodore of the Lake Chelan Yacht Club, a member and past president of the Chelan Chamber of Commerce, member and past president of the Okanogan-Caribou Trail Association, and had been a commissioner of the Chelan County Cemetery District No. 4 for many years. He is survived by his wife, of the home; a son, Robert J. Jr. of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Virginia Robinette of Beaverton, Ore.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters. Arrangements are by Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.[2]
