Biography

Christoph Vogler was born in Waldoboro or Broad Bay, Maine (which was still part of Massachusetts at the time, hence the inscription on his gravestone). He came with his parents to North Carolina in 1770.

Some family histories give his full name as Alexander Christoph Vogler, but it is clear from the gravestone and Moravian church records that he was called Christoph or Christopher.

Records of the Moravians in North Carolina[1] 6:2582: 22 Jan, 1797, Salem. In the evening there was the wedding of the single Br. Christoph Vogler to the single Sr. Anna Johanna Stauber.

6:2587. Dec. 4. Br. and Sr. Christoph and Anna Johanna Vogler moved today into their new house. [A footnote to this entry identifies it as lot No. 65 on the modern map of Salem. There is a photograph on the following web page: http://www.fmoran.com/vogler.html]

Christoph and Anna Johanna were the parents of seven children. They are both buried at Salem Moravian God's Acre, in Winston-Salem, Forsyth Co. NC.[2]
