Christoph Vogler was born in Waldoboro or Broad Bay, Maine (which was still part of Massachusetts at the time, hence the inscription on his gravestone). He came with his parents to North Carolina in 1770.
Some family histories give his full name as Alexander Christoph Vogler, but it is clear from the gravestone and Moravian church records that he was called Christoph or Christopher.
