Biography

Christening: 20 Apr 1873 at the Dutch Reformed Church, Colesberg. Baptism register: witnesses: "Willem Johannes Lodewikus Booysen, Susanna Maria Ninaber".

Marriage: 29 Jun 1891 at the Dutch Reformed Church, Colesberg. Marriage register: Groom: 21 years, single, stock farmer resided at Ou Drift. Bride: 18 years, single, resided at Ketelfontein. Parents' consent. Witnesses: BH Roux, J Naude.

Death: 27 Jan 1950. The death registration form was signed by a relative JHJ Piek who was present at death. Cause of death: Uremia (5 days); Chronic Nephritis & hypertension.

Note: She and her children were exiles/refugees in a tented camp during the Anglo-Boer War at Fairview, Port Elizabeth. This camp was set up by a benevolent society run by John Fox-Smith and was one of the best run camps during the war. It was situated on the present day Greenacres shopping mall site. A concentration camp memorial is situated at Glendinningvale next to the SAPS sports grounds (Latitude : -33° 57' 17.99" S Longitude : 25° 35' 34.63" E). Many years later she told her grandchildren that they had been treated well by the British.
