Note: She and her children were exiles/refugees in a tented camp during the Anglo-Boer War at Fairview, Port Elizabeth. This camp was set up by a benevolent society run by John Fox-Smith and was one of the best run camps during the war. It was situated on the present day Greenacres shopping mall site. A concentration camp memorial is situated at Glendinningvale next to the SAPS sports grounds (Latitude : -33° 57' 17.99" S Longitude : 25° 35' 34.63" E). Many years later she told her grandchildren that they had been treated well by the British.
