Harrington Waddell graduated in from Washington and Lee University. At age 25, he became the Principal of Lexington Public Schools in 1897 and served in this capacity through 1952. He was a supporter in the Lylburn Downing School for African American students in Lexington in 1926-1927 and involved in the construction supervision. Harrington Waddell Elementary School, located at 302-B Diamond Street in Lexington, VA 24450, was named in his honor. In March 2016, the old school was demolished and reconstructed for $12.5 million.
