Biography

Mrs. Lucy Long Wagoner age 93, one of the oldest residents of Mercer County, died at 1:40 am on February 14, 1941 at the home of her daughter Mrs. Fern Fuhr. She had been failing in health the last few weeks and her death was attributed to the infirmities of age. The funeral services were held at the Millersburg Presbyterian Church with Rev. Robert Byler, Pastor of the Aledo Baptist Church, and Rev J A Leonard of Aledo retired Baptist Pastor officiating. Burial was in the Millersburg Cemetery. "Grandma" Wagoner, as everyone knew her, was born in North Carolina and grew to womanhood there. She was married in that state to William Wagoner, January 2, 1867. They came in a covered wagon to Indiana and later to Millersburg in Mercer County, where Mrs. Wagoner lived until 10 years ago when she later moved to Aledo to live with her daughter. Mr. Wagoner died on March 10, 1928 after a long life of farming. Mrs. Wagoner was a member of the Baptist faith. Two daughters also preceded her in death. Surviving are five daughters; Mrs. Alvin Wheeler Murdock of Millersburg, Mrs. Ross Belt of Aledo, Mrs. H N Cooper and Mrs. Chauncey Carver of Reynolds, and Mrs. Fuhr of Aledo; four sons, George of Andalusia, Will, Lee, and Earl of Aledo; 35 grandchildren, 81 great grandchildren, and 20 great great grandchildren, besides a host of friends and neighbors all mourn her passing.[1]
