One of Bud's last emails after retiring and relocating to Klamath Falls, OR;

From: Arthur Walden Sent: Monday, October 16, 2006 7:10 PM Subject: Greetings from Klamath Falls, Oregon!

FINALLY got a new email set up, thx. to computer guru, Bill Head in Orange County.

Drove down through the old part of K.F. yesterday. Kinda' fascinating. Beautiful old homes but Main St. was quite wide (unusual). Saw some intriguing antique shops (wonder if they would be interested in me?), quaint old stores. This area is not at all deserted, lot of business activity going on. One hotel advertised "hot and cold water," another advertised "a bath in every room." I should think so!. County offices are right in old town K.F.

Sun is so bright, it really hurts my eyes. They need some Calif. smog up here. Temp. today very pleasant - 75-80 degrees. Lower humidity than Calif. My lips are chapped. No matter, I don't have anyone to kiss anyhow! (Forget the cats). Cools off considerably at night. 30 to 40 degrees, presently. 4500 ft. elevation. Went to church Sunday - also quite quaint and down to earth.

As I've mentioned to some, I've now gotten over being so nervous as I was when I first visited here. COULDN'T SEE THE AIR I WAS BREATHING! Beautifully clear, blue skies.

Thought not as sophisticated as S. Calif., people are very friendly and many tend to be the "good ol' boy" type and some seem to be "red necks" but there is certainly nothing wrong with that. Many are beginning to enjoy my jokes; however, I have been told by my brother-in-law that here they don't "cotton" to putting anyone down, so I will be careful choosing my material and my joke candidates. I think I do anyhow.

Some sunsets are gorgeous, particularly observing them through my front window (I'm on a hill) as the brilliant, constant changing colors meander across the city with Mount Shasta in the background. Occasionally seems the mountains are on fire. Many beautiful fall colors on the trees - oranges, reds, yellows - just like the trip I took to the East Coast in the Fall, though not as many.

Sometimes about 3:00 a.m. I hear the plaintive wail of a train as it slowly escapes the travails of the human race and reaches into the peace and tranquility of the mountains, giant trees and high desert. It is a relaxing area and I'm enjoying it.

Have a coy pond at the front of the house. The neighborhood cat LOVES watching them!

Now I better get back to work, putting stuff away. YUCH!!!
