William Walker was the son of Henry Walker and Matilda Fisher. He emigrated to New Zealand in 1862 arriving at Port Chalmers, Dunedin. He settled at Alexandra and 3 years later married Scottish born, Jane Herriot at the registrar's office in Dunstan, Clyde. William and Jane were to raise a large family of 14 children in their marriage. The family lived in Dunedin for a time and in the late 1870's, early 1880's William bought land at Palmerston.
William Walker died age 60 and is buried at Palmerston Cemetery in Otago.[1]
