He was christened July 21, 1765 at St. James Santee Parish, Charleston, South Carolina. Georgetown Gazette newspaper dated July 8, 1815: "Died at his residence on Sampit, on Tuesday morning the 4th instant, James Walker, Esq., in the 50th year of his age. A wife and a number of children have to lament his loss."

James and Mary had 15 children, some of which were listed on his gravestone.
