ADULTHOOD. HE MARRIED LUCY JANE POWELL AND THE FAMILY RAISED GRAIN,CORN,
AND FEED CATTLE, ALONG WITH DAIRY CATTLE AND PIGS.
James Nelson Walker was born June 25, 1841, at Compton Twp., Kane Co.,IL.
He was the first child of Nelson and Louisa(____) Walker, who wereborn in
New York and New Jersey respectively. Nelson and Louisa Walker joinedthe
increasing number of pioneers moving west. Setting out in a covered
wagon, soom after their marraige in the East, the corn-cob pipesmoking
Louisa helped her husband drive the wagon. They arrived in KaneCounty,
Il, settling at Plato Center. Their other children were: EugeneMartin,
born 1843: Cecelia V., Born 1847; Thomas H.B., born 1849, died July30,
1854; Alvira L.; Franklin P.; Lewis F.; and Olive M. Nelson died atan
early age so James, with the help of hes brothers and sisters,maintained
the farm. James Nelson Walker continued ot farm as he reachedadulthood.
He married Lucy Jane Powell and the family raised grain, corn, andfeed
cattle, along with dairy cattle and pigs. Four daughters, all born at
plato center, resulted from the marraige: Alice E., born
