There's an interesting story as to why Holt was given as a first name. His mother died in childbirth and having an older brother who was a toddler made it very difficult for Duncan Walker to raise too little babies. So the two boys went to live with their mother's family whose last name was Holt. And to connect him to that family they named in Holt Walker, no middle name. Holt seniors last job was that of Railroad Superintendent for the rail line from Ryderwood, Washington, the logging town, to Longview, Washington, the lumber mill. The company was LongBell Lumber Company. When he retired it was with a Railroad pension. They bought a little house in Winlock, Washington. Holt's death was unusual. He was taking his customary walk when someone backed out of a driveway hitting him and pushing him into the street where he was struck by a pickup. The driver never stopped. It was hit-and-run.
