(as shared with others researching this line)

I'm working on the profile of Azariah Lewis Walker. The following part of the time line gives me pause.

Marriage 20 Jul 1884 • Scott, Arkansas, United States Susan M Stewart (1851–1908)

Death of Wife India Unknown Walker (1857–1884) 8 OCT 1884 • Scott County, AR

Wait...October comes after July. Is it the case that he married Susan while former wife India was still alive? Are there family stories?

We have this from find a grave for India and son Edward.

Walker, Edward W. 18072997 b. unknown d. Oct. 10, 1884 Kirk Cemetery (inscribed information shows he was one year old)

Walker, India 18072982 b. Jan. 1, 1857 d. Oct. 8, 1884 Kirk Cemetery

This suggests to me two scenarios and I think the second is more plausible.

1st he was polygamous, and his first wife dies a few short months after the second marriage.

2nd the year is mis-recorded on India's stone erected sometime after her actual death. Her death more likely occurred in 1883 a few days after Edward's birth. Azariah Lewis remarries in July of 1884 and step mother Susan raises him between July and his death on Oct 10 1884.

Anybody have anything on this?
