Biography

Philip was born before 1775. He was the son of Philip Walker and Jennet Unknown. [1] He passed away in 1826.

Philip Walker died Abt December 1826 in Davidson Co., TN (Source: The Inventory for the Estate of Philip Walker was Recorded December 26, 1826. It mentions Abigail Walker as having purchased many of the household items. I believe her to be his widow.

Household and kitchen furniture, four beds and furniture, one dining table, 2 sheets, one corner cupboard & furniture, two large spinning wheels, two flax wheels, one loom, four sitting chairs, one pot, two ovens, two kettles & skillet, a pair of Stutyards, one copper still & tubs, plantation tools, three chopping aces, one hewing axe, three ploughs, four hoes & one mattock, two chisels, gouges, one hand saw, one waggon & four pairs of gears, one log chain, one pair of iron wedges, one scythe & cradle, one _____ (perhaps corn) scythe, one hand axe, a pair of andirons. Slaves

Philip's estate include three enslaved people:

  • Morgan in 1833 he was sold at auction to David Hunter in order to divide his price among the heirs
  • Lot, Abigail Walker paid for the "hire of Lot" in the inventory and in 1850 she still owned an enslaved man aged 52, who may have been Lot
  • Flora, Abigail Walker paid for the "hire of Flora" in the inventory ,and in 1850 she still owned an enslaved woman aged 100, who may have been Flora

Philip Walker, Jr. could have been born in the Mecklenberg Co., NC area or Chester Co., SC area. He is listed in the visitation section of the records of the Fishing Creek Presbyterian Church as a son of Philip and Jennit Walker for January 30, 1775.
