Biography

Amie Walker born 4 Mar 1727 in Rehoboth, Bristol, Massachusetts the daughter of Ephraim Walker and Mary Abell[1]

Alternative birth date according to a different source:

Amey Walker was born in Rehoboth on 4 March 1726, the daughter of Ephraim and May (Abell) Walker of Rehoboth, Massachusetts.[2] Amey was baptized 20 March 1725/26 at the Rehoboth Congregational Church[3] (which is now the Newman Congregational Church, located in East Providence in Rhode Island in territory that was ceded from Massachusetts).

On 29 Oct 1747 in Rehoboth, Bristol, Massachusetts, Amie Walker married Eleazer Harding of Providence, R.I.[4].

Different source for marriage:

Amey married Eleazur Harding of Providence, Rhode Island October 1747.[5][6] The couple resided in Providence, Rhode Island.[7] TThey had at least three children. Sarah born in 1751,[8] a daughter Amey Ellis , and a son, Walker, all mentioned in Eleazer's will.[9] It is not reliably known when Amey died. She is buried in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence, Providence, Rhode Island.[10]

Eleazer was the son of Richard Harding and Mary Thurber.

Children Include:

  1. Walker Harding (29 Jan 1748 Providence, Providence, Rhode Island[11] - )
  2. Amey Harding (29 Jan 1750 Providence, Providence, Rhode Island[12] - )
  3. Sarah Harding (8 Dec 1751 - Providence, Providence, Rhode Island[13] - )
  4. Jonathan Harding (b. 8 May 1754 Providence, Providence, Rhode Island[14] - )

Research Notes

  • I have been unable to find information on what, if any, memorial actually exists at Swan Point. Headstone with dates worn off? Note in the yard record books? Something to look into if anybody has local knowledge.
  • There is some confusion arising around the birth year and the birth and marriage places. Amey's baptism and her marriage both happened at the Rehoboth Congregational Church. Part of Rehoboth was separated as Seekonk in 1812, and part of Seekonk was ceded to Rhode Island and called East Providence in 1862. The church itself is now the Newman Congregational Church, so when Arnold transcribed the records of the church from its time as the Rehoboth Congregational Church, it was listed in his volume on Seekonk and called Newman Congregational Church. But when the baptism and marriage occured, the place would have been called Rehoboth.
  • The birth was also recorded at Rehoboth, but shown as 4 March 1727, after the baptism date of 20 March 1725/6. There are a couple of possible explanations. The birth years of Amey's older siblings were not transcribed, suggesting that the page in the original records may have become illegible. If so, the 1727 may have been a mistake. Alternatively, there may have been an incorrect assumption about whether certain dates were recorded old style or new. The original records need to be consulted to be sure about the correct way to resolve the conflict.

Walker-41776 and Walker-2957 appear to represent the same person because: I changed the data on Walker-41776, with sourcing and analysis, as per the information that was given with the old merge proposal. Now, the only discrepancy to resolve is the birth year. But as I put in the analysis on the research note, this is not resolvable without consulting both the original town record page and the original baptism record page. Until that time, it makes no sense to keep these as separate profiles -- they should be merged, with a birth year chosen and marked as uncertain, and if conflict resolution ever comes it will be easy to change the year by one if necessary.

Walker-2957 and Walker-41776 do not represent the same person because: Birth Location, DOB and marriage location are all in conflict. These discrepancies must be resolved prior to merger

Records show Amey, her siblings and her parents were all born in Rehoboth. Appear to be duplicate records in Rhode Island for Amie except different birth date.

Walker-41776 and Walker-2957 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicates. The birthdates are different, but that is because the source is a baptism at Newman Congregational Church in (now) East Providence on 20 March 1725/6. One profile records this as 1725, although most Wikitreers use new style in the date field. The other date of 4 March 1726 came from the birth record from Rehoboth: https://archive.org/details/vitalrecordofreh00arno/page/762/mode/2up

This says 4 March 1727, which is clearly in conflict with the baptism date. Someone seemingly moved it up by one year in the date field to make it a good fit with the baptism. The Rehoboth recorded dates of birth for her older siblings are missing digits, indicating the original record may be damaged or hard to read. So I am inclined to believe the Rehoboth year is a transcription mistake and that 1726 is correct, fitting with the baptism. But all of this should be recorded in the bio, regardless.
