James Walker died 7 Aug 1761 in his 59th year, in Taunton. "Stifled in his well" He was buried in the Walker-Blake cemetery. He married July 21, 1761, Mary Pitts, who married secondly Abner Thayer. At the time he owned the Mansion house and he was a man of influence for the time and prominent in the affairs of the town. He was killed while digging a well. He had a son born after his death and they named him James to honor his father.
