Biography

Samuel Walker, Deacon[1]

Origin

Samuel was born June 28, 1643[2] at Reading, Middlesex County,Massachusetts.[1] He was a son of Samuel Walker and Anne Sheldon.[1]

Family

Samuel married twice.

  • He married 10 September 1662 at Woburn, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, as his 1st, to Sarah Reed.[1] All of his children were with Sarah Reed. She died November 1, 1681.[1]
  • He married 18 April 1692 at Woburn, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, as his 2nd, and as her 2nd, to Abigail (Carter) Fowle.[1] Samuel and Abigail had no children. After Samuel's death, she married, as her 3rd, to Deacon Samuel Stone in 1706.[1]

Province of Massachusetts-Bay House of Representatives

Samuel served in the House of Representatives for the town of Woburn, sworn in May 27, 1719 in Boston. 1694.[1] He may also have served in the House in earlier years.[3]

Deacon, Selectman

Samuel was a Deacon from 1692-1704.[3] He was chosen as a Selectman for Woburn in the years 1690, 91, 1703.[3]

Death and Legacy

Samuel's will was dated July 5, 1699 and was probated February 15, 1703.[1]

Deacon Samuel Walker died in Woburn, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, on January 18, 1703-4, "Aged 61 Years" (gravestone). Widow Abigail remarried and died May 11, 1718. Samuel is buried in the First Burial Ground in Woburn, where his gravestone reads:[1][4][5][6][7][8]

See NEHGR Vol 177, Page 124. His birth is recorded in Reading, but he was born in Exeter, New Hampshire, where his parents were living prior to the move to Reading.

I have added two sources for his marriage to Sarah Reed. The marriage license or bond was issued on 10 Oct, but they were not married until 23rd Oct.
