D. 1832 personally appeared in open Court before the Hon. Benj. F. Deming Judge of the Court of Probate now sitting for the District aforesaid Simeon Walker a resident of Peacham in the County of Caledonia and District aforesaid in the State of Vermont aged seventy six years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress of June 7, 1832. That he entered the services of the United States under the following named officers and served as herein stated viz. That at Woodbury in the County of Litchfield in the State of Connecticut the place of his then residence in the month of May 1776, he enlisted in the Connecticut troop for the term of seven months - marched to Fort Ticonderoga on Lake Champlain by the way of Greenbush and Fort Edwards, N. York in the company called the Colonel's Company in Col. Hinman's regiment, another Hinman 1st Lieut. of the Company, Benj. Hungerford 2nd Lieut. Ensign Torrance remained at Ticonderoga until sometime in the fall being taken sick with fever and ague. Was permitted to return home and was sick during the winter following. That at said Woodbury in the month of June 1776 he enlisted for the term of six months in the Connecticut troops in the Company of Capt. Hurd, _________ Bracem 1st Lieut., ________ Judson 2nd Liuet.,________ Clarke Ensign in the regiment of Col. Silliman in Wadsworth Brigade - marched to Norwalk, Conn. and there took shipping to N. York City - from the City on to Long Island - the Brigade he was in was relieved by Lord Stirling the day before the battle at the time of the taking of Gen. Sullivan and his troops - thence crossed to the City left the City at the time of the evacuation by the American troops - thence by Haarlem to White plains and was in the battle of White plains - continued in the service until the expiration of his term and was discharged as he thinks at a place called "Nor.th Castle a few miles from White plains. That in 1777 was out seven times in the" militia on alarms sometimes for a few days and sometimes for a few weeks - was at Fishkill and Redhook in the service at the time of burning Sopus. He thinks he served in 1777 as much as two months in all. Was out a few days at the time of the burning of Norwalk. That he was born at Woodbury in the State of Connecticut, was nineteen years of age when he entered the service - lived at said Woodbury until 1780 when he removed to Peacham, Vermont, where he now resides. Peacham was at that time a frontier town, being the most northerly settlement in the part of Vermont. That he never received a written discharge. He hereby relinquished every claim whatever to a pension or an annunity except the present and declares that his name is not on the pension roll of any agency in any state. (Signed) Simeon Walker Sworn and subscribed the day and year aforesaid: Before Benj. F. Deming Judge of Probate I James Miner of Danville in the County of Caledonia and State of Vermont depose and say that in the time of the revolutionary war I resided at Woodbury inthe State of Connecticut - that I was well acquainted with Simeon Walker then of said Woodbury who has subscribed and sworn to the foregoing declaration - that I was knowing to his being enlisted by lieut. Hungerford for seven months as I understood and now believe he marched to Fort Ticonderoga - this was in 1775 - I know he was absent for several months and that it was understood and believed that he was in the service as aforesaid. I recalled seeing him shortly after his return sick of the fever and ague which I think in the fall but what month I cannot say. I further depose and say that I am knowing that he enlisted in 1776 in Capt. Nathan Hurd’s Company in Col. Silliman’s regiment for six months. I was myself a soldier in the same Company and for the same term and know that the said Walker served the full term of his engagement. I saw the said Walker in the service at Peekskill N. Y. in 1777 in the militia about the time of the burning of Sopes. I was out with the said Walker in 1779 at the time of the burning of Norwalk. I think we were out about three weeks that time. (signed) James Miner Sworn and subscribed the day and year aforesaid. Before Benj. F. Deming Judge of Probate I Ashabel Martin of Peacham in the County of Caledonia and State of Vermont depose and say that I resided at Woodbury in the State of Connecticut in the time of the revolutionary war. That I was well acquainted with Simeon Walker then of said Woodbury who has subscribed and sworn to the foregoing declaration. That I was knowing to his being in the service of the United States in the Connecticut troops for the term of six months at New York City, Long Island and White plains in Capt. Hurd's Company, in Col. Silliman's regiment. I was myself a soldier in the same Company and regiment and served for the same term. I further depose and say that in the winter of 1777 I was with said Walker at place called Horseneck for about three weeks in the service - I was also out with said Walker in the fall of said year in the militia service about one month at the time of the burning of Sopers. (Signed) Ashbel Martin Sworn and subscribed the day and year aforesaid Before Benj. F. Deming Judge of Probate And the Court aforesaid do hereby declare their opinion after the investigation of the matter and after putting the interrogations proscribed by the War Department that the above named applicant was a revolutionary soldier and served as he stated. And the Court further certificates that James Miner and Ashbel Martin who have signed the foregoing affadivats are residents the former of Danville and the latter of Peacham in Caledonia County and are credible persons and that their statements are entitled to credit. I, Amos Paul, Regis1er of the Court of Probate for the District of Caledonia do hereby certify that the foregoing contains the original proceedings of the said Court in the matter of the application of Simeon Wa Iker for a pension. In testimony whereof I have hereinto set my hand and the seal of office this day 12th day of July A. D. 1832 Amos Paul - Register"
