He and brother-in law Peter Rife, a master carpenter (and documented clockmaker) working on building the Christiansburg Courthouse of Montgomery County , Virginia . Conrad Jr. doing the brickwork and Peter the millwork. ca 1813-15 Conrad was in the same militia unit as Fanny Shell's brothers in 1777. He had apparently moved away from his father and brothers who remained in Botetourt County. Mary Kegley says he went to Montgomery County to claim bounty land from the Proclamation of 1763, but it may be bounty his father earned and granted to Jr. The militia record usually means he was born at least by 1761(age 18) or 1759(age 16). The 1830 census indicates he was born between 1750 and 1760. He married a second time to an Elizabeth Rife, She is named in his will and also a land transaction in 1796. Conrad apparently wrote his will in January of 1830 then died in December of that year. Kegley lists the heirs in the following order: Sampson G., Joseph K., Thomas, Elijah, Christian, John, Mary, Frances, Elizabeth, and Sarah 'who married a Heavin.' Various census records, etc. appear to yield the following birth order: Christian(~1790), John(Indef.), Mary(~1798), Sarah(<1803), Frances/'Fanny'(~1803), Sampson(~1805), Joseph(~1805-10), Thomas(~1810), Elijah(~1813), Elizabeth(Indef.) KEGLEY names the following transactions (UNDER CONRAD SR. in INDEX. ) On page 373, recounts and states only CONRAD JR came to the NEW RIVER and restates these transactions.
