Biography

Robert Lee Wall was born on 11 Jun 1763 in Prince George's County, Maryland; he was the son Zachariah Wall and Hannah Everett.[1] He first married Fannie Parsons on 27 Feb 1787 in Culpepper County, VA.[2] By 1800[3] they had moved to Madison, Rockingham County, NC, and had four children, 2 boys and 2 girls. Robert bought 8 acres of land on the north side of the Dan River on 29 May 1804,[4] and Fannie dies on 27 Nov 1807,[5] leaving Robert to raise the children. About 1808, Robert marries Lucy Scales.[6] By 1810 Robert has another child by either Fannie or Lucy.[7] On 28 Apr 1818, Robert bought 8 more acres on both sides of Haw Branch of Reed Creek in Rockingham County.[8] On the 1820 census of Rockingham County, no children are listed, but Lucy is still with Robert, both over 45 years old.[9] Lucy dies before 1830, because Robert is on that census by himself, except for the 15 slaves.[10] In 1840, Robert has 17 slaves, and he is 70 - 79 years old, with a male 60 - 69 years with him.[11] Robert's will was written 15 Feb 1841, and he talks about at least 750 acres of land. He also mentions a town lot in Madison, but only mentions 3 children. This must be all that was alive at the time.[12] Robert died 6 Mar 1844 in Rockingham County, NC,[13] where he had lived most of his life and raised his family. It is not known where he was buried.
