Biography

Leonard Wall (or Stewart Wall) was born in Ceylon,

His first wife was Emily Elizabeth Letts, who he married on 30 May 1900 at St Lukes Peckham. Leonard was aged 26, a clerk in Holy Orders and the son of George Wall deceased, a tea planter. Emily was aged 24 and the daughter of Samuel Allen Letts a retired commander in the Royal Navy. [1]

Emily died in Hythe, Kent in 1908, and Leonard emigrated to Australia the following year.

His name appears on the passenger list for the 'Nile' which left Southampton on 6 January 1909, he was bound for Demerara in Guyana [2]

He arrived in Fremantle, Western Australia on the 'Ophir' on 22 April 1909 [3]

Leonard married Beatrice E D Butler on 13 October 1909 in Tasmania [4]

Leonard (indexed as Wall or Stewart Wall) died in Hobart Tasmania on 8 July 1936. Probate of his effects in England was granted to his widow Beatrice Emma Dennis Wall [5]

REV. LEONARD WALL Vicar of Tasman Peninsula

After an illness lasting about six weeks, the Rev. Leonard Wall, vicar of Tasman Peninsula, died yesterday. Mr. Wall, who was in his 64th year, was the son of the late Mr. George Wall, and was born In Ceylon. He was educated at Oxford University, England, came to Australia in 1909, and was stationed at Blackall, Rockhampton diocese, Queensland. He was appointed rector of Clarence. Tasmania, in 1914, and was afterwards stationed at St. Paul's, Launceston, Cullenswood, Sorell, Pontville, and latterly at Tasman Peninsula. He married twice, his second wife being Miss Beatrice Butler, a sister of Mr. W. F. D. Butler, of Hobart. He leaves a wife and eight children. The funeral will take place at Pontville tomorrow.
