Biography

Arthur Wall and Eleanor Cooper divorced in 1922. He worked for his mother as a carter, she owned about 4 horses and drays.

In 1930 he resided in Hoskins Street Bankstown.


Arthur was born about 1888. He is the son of James Wall and Bridget Mary O'Brien. [1]

1915 Oct 13: Arthur Major Wall [26] charged on warrant with assaulting Harold Walker thereby occasioning actual bodily harm has been arrested by Sergeant 3rd class Mackenzie, Harden Police on information supplied by Constable Lane, Galong Police. Committed for trial at Yass sessions; Bail allowed. 15 Oct 1915 at Yass court Acquitted.

1918 Jan 18 Bankstown: A warrant has been issued by the Bankstown Bench for the arrest of Arthur Major Wall, charged with wife desertion. He is about 29 years of age, 5ft 8 or 9 in high, strong build, dark complexion and hair. Clean shaved and walks a little lame. Dressed in a navy blue suit and black felt hat; addicted to drink and at times very quarrelsome. A carter on railway works and has 3 or 4 drays and horses and is accompanied by his mother who owns the turnouts, recently worked at Sydenham. Complainant Eleanor Wall, Raymond St Central Bankstown. 1918 Apr 3: Arthur Major Wall charged on warrant with wife desertion has been arrested by Constable Smith, Lithgow Police. Remanded to Parramatta and discharged. No prosecution.

1918 Nov 11: A warrant has been issued by the Parramatta Bench fir the arrest of Arthur Major Wall charged with wife desertion. He is 29 years of age, 5ft 9 or 10 in high, stout build, fresh complexion, brown hair going grey, clean shaved, blue eyes, no teeth in upper jaw has a limp in left leg when walking. A horse driver and follows railway works, being employed by his mother Mary Wall who has 4 tip-drays and who moves about with him, last employed at Portland and is said to have left there a month ago for Lithgow but inquiries there have failed to locate him. Identical with offender of same name [vide Police Gazette 1918 pages 53 and 160]. Complainant Eleanor Wall, Raymond St. Bankstown. 1918 Nov 27: Arthur Major Wall on warrant with wife desertion has been arrested by Constable Smith, Lithgow Police. Remanded to Parramatta and ordered to pay 27s per week for the support of his wife with £2.8s costs in default one month’s hard labour.

1920 Feb 4: A commitment warrant of £15.11s.6d in default imprisonment until the order is compiled with has been issued by the Parramatta bench against Arthur Major Wall for disobeying a magistrate order for the support of his wife. He is 31 years of age; 5ft 5 or 6in high; med build; fair complexion and hair nearly grey; blue eyes; clean shaved; no teeth in upper jaw, has a limp in his left leg. Well known amongst navvies has resided at Cessnock. 1922 Sep 13: Parramatta: The complainant warrant issued against Arthur Major Wall for disobeying a magisterial order for the support of his wife, has been cancelled.
