Biography

David was born in 1860, the son of Benjamin Franklin and Virginia (Willock) Wallace, in Independence, Missouri, where he would be raised and live out his life. In around 1884, when he was 24 years of age, David married Margaret Elizabeth “Madge” Gates, the daughter of George Porterfield and Elizabeth H. (Emery) Gates. Together they would have the following children:

Elizabeth Virginia "Bess" (Wallace) Truman (1885–1982)

Frank Gates Wallace (1887–1960)

George Porterfield Wallace (1892–1963)

David Frederick Wallace (1900–1957)

David and Madge's oldest child "Bess" would marry Harry S. Truman, the 33rd President of the United States.

David held several public offices in his life, including Jackson County Treasurer, and was Deputy Surveyor in the Kansas City office of the United States Bureau of Customs at the time of his death.

In 1903, David put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger. His body is buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Independence, Jackson County, Missouri.
