Research Notes

Because there is no tombstone picture on the Find A Grave source, this profile is virtually unsourced, and the Peter Wallace noted there as her father is certainly not.

Disambiguation

Warning: Elizabeth Wallace Carlton is not the same person as Elizabeth Wallace Gilmore. In about 1750 John Henry Carleton married Elizabeth Wallace in Virginia according to family trees captured by U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900. Which particular Elizabeth Wallace and of what parents are one of those false steps that links the ancestry of Elizabeth Wallace Carlton onto various families. It is difficult to know which are correct, and it is possible that none of the trees are.

Elizabeth who married Thomas Carlton was not the daughter of Peter Wallace or his wife Martha Woods, neither of which were old enough to be her parents. Elizabeth Wallace daughter of Peter Wallace or his wife Martha Woods married John Gilmore as proven by the will of her father and brother, Captain Andrew Wallace.
