Notes
Note N486Matthew Wallace was born to parents John Wallace and Marion Craig in Galston on 23 September 1810, and was christened on 23 September 1810. LDS and SRO records confirm.
The 1841 census finds Matthew living at Titchfield Street, Galston, occupation Merchant, aged 30. Also present are his father John, Master Manufacturer's Agent, aged 70; wife Agnes Wallace, aged 25; John Wallace, aged 5; Jane Wallace, aged 3, and Marion Wallace, aged 1. All in the house were born in Ayrshire. NOTE: ages in the 1841 census were rounded down to the nearest 5 years. This was supposed to be for people of 15 and over, but some census takers did it for all and others entered the actual age. For Titchfield Street, age rounding down may have been undertaken for all those over 5 years old (as some of the ages are out) - for Langland Street (see below), it may have been undertaken properly.
Also in the 1841 census are niece Agnes Marshall, aged 10, and nephew Alex Marshall, aged 5.
