William was baptsed on the 9th of May 1813 in Ryhall, Rutland, to parents John and Ann Wallace. John was a labourer. Their abode was listed as Empingham (matching later census records).
A John Wallace was married to Ann Haynes at All Saints, Stamford, Lincolnshire on the 13th of May 1811. Ancestry.com links these as William's parents - I haven't found definitive proof of this, but the timing is about right and Williams Ryhall baptism shows some kind of link to the Stamford area.
Some time before 1841 William married Charlotte. Ancestry.com dates this as 5th of February 1833 (but cites no source); and suggests her maiden name was Billings, which fits with the 1841 census.
On the 1841 census, William (agricultural labourer) and Charlotte lived in Exton with children Ann and John. The family lived with Elizabeth Billings (60, charwoman) and Robert Billings (30 or 50, illegible profession), probably Charlotte's mother and either father or brother (more likley brother aged 30 as listed after mother so not considered head of household?)
In 1851 William and Charlotte lived in Exton with children John, Henry, Amos (or Thomas?), George and Samuel. By 1861 the resident children were John, Henry, George, Samuel, William and Betsy.
In 1861 Charlotte and William lived alone, in Puddingbag End, Exton.
Charlotte died in late 1885, and William in mid 1889, both in Oakham District.
