Biography

1776 Project
Private John Wallace served with 8th Battalion, Chester County Militia, Pennsylvania Militia during the American Revolution.

Born: John was born in 1760 in York County, Pennsylvania.[1] [2]

Military Service: John served in the Revolutionary War as a Private in Capt. David Denny's 5th Company of the 8th Battalion, Chester Co, PA. Militia and others serving in 1777-1778.[3] [4][5] In the War of 1812, John served as a Corporal and then Sergeant in Capt. John Allen Scroggs Company of Lt. Col. John Andrews Regiment, Ohio.[6][7]

Marriage: John Wallace was married to Margaret Anderson.[5][6][8]

Residences: In 1804, the Wallaces migrated to Washington County, PA where they remained until 1805, then to Putney Township, Belmont County, Ohio and lastly to Harrison County, Ohio, where in 1822 they purchased 160 acres of land in Moorfield Township.[9][6] There are Ohio Tax Records for John beginning in 1816.[10] A Land Patent in March of 1818 for 160 acres in Harrison County issued to an assignee of John Wallace. [11]The 1820 and 1830 U.S. Censuses show John living in Harrison County, Ohio .[12] [13]

Death and Burial: John died in 1832 and is buried at Nottingham Cemetery, Harrison County, Ohio, USA .[1]

  4. Nancy Wallace.[6], reportedly b. December 2, 1785, married John Watson.
