Ann Mitford was born at Akeld, Northumberland, England, say 1525, daughter of Gilbert Wallis (Walleis) of Alkeld. She was the first wife of Cuthbert Mitford of Mitford, Northumberland.^{[1][2][3][4][5]} The Coupland Castle history states Gilbert Akeld's daughter "apparently became the first wife of Cuthbert Mitford of Mitford."^[6]
