Biography

John Wallis died in 1672 in Widmerpool and was buried there on the 3rd of July ^[1]

Research Notes

• The only likely christening records found in FamilySearch are in 1635 at Mattersey, which is at the very northern end of the county, or even earlier in 1628 at Edwalton, which is several miles to the south.
• FreeReg has one in 1636 at Bingham, east of Nottingham, but this is still some way away.
• This person was originally listed as being born c1648 (based on the baptisms of his known children). That was later modified to him being born 27 February 1621 in Widmerpool (15 miles away from Stapleford) the son of Nicholas Wallis. That is not the correct lineage as John, the son of Nicholas was buried in Widmerpool 27 March 1621.
• No marriage for this couple found in FamilySearch or FreeReg.
• Thomas and Richard's christenings are recorded in FamilySearch at Stapleford, with mother named as Elizabeth.
• These other items have also been attached to this profile, some may be relevant:
  • A private IGI entry gives a marriage of a John Wallis to Elizabeth Recklis in 1673, with two children christened at Bramcote in 1677 and 1679 - if this were the same John, it would needs be a second marriage.
  • There are two possible later children in 1679 and 1682 to a John and Elizabeth Wallis , but these are at Hickling, at the very southern end of the county, and Plumtree, several miles south of Nottingham.
