Biography

Birth

Thomas Ellis, the son of George Walmsley and his wife Eliza, née Kinsley, who had been married at Croft on the 18 February 1836^[1], was born in 1859 at Wainfleet St Mary.^[2]

Marriage

Thomas Ellis married Elizabeth Havercroft in 1883. Their marriage was registered at Hull in Q1 of 1883.^[3]

Children

Thomas Ellis and Elizabeth had a single child, Ethel, born at Hull on 25 December 1883.^[4] Ethel was baptized at the parish church of Holy Trinity, Hull, on 20 January 1884. Thomas Ellis' abode was given as 3 Hessle Road Buildings, Waverley Street, and his occupation as Rulleyman.^[5]

Death

Thomas Ellis died, aged 26, at the Borough Fever Hospital, Hull, on 21 May 1885. His residence was 8 Perseverance Place Hull.^[6][7]

Census Records

The 7 April 1861 census records Thomas Ellis, listed as Ellis, living with his parents and four older siblings at Mouse Lane, Wainfleet St Mary.^[8]

The 2 April 1871 census records Thomas Ellis living with his parents and older sister Jane at 32 Mouse Lane, Wainfleet St Mary. Thomas Ellis' occupation was given as Scholar.^[9]

Research Notes

The parish register for baptisms for the parish of Wainfleet St Mary is only online up to 1852. The next baptism register, Wainfleet St Mary PAR/1/7, covers the time period 1852-1999. None of this has been publicly released, so may only be available at the Lincolnshire Archives Office. Hence, no baptism record for Thomas has been found, whereas all his siblings up to 1852 were baptized at Wainfleet St Mary.
