Hugh Walsh reached US shores from Killyleagh, County Down in 1764 at the age of 19.
…In the genealogy of the Walsh family, the place is given as Killingsley “on the west shore of Strangford Inlet,County Down
He settled at Newburgh-on-the Hudson halfway to Albany and started a soap factory. He later took to buiding sloops. He prospered in a merchandise and freighting business.
In 1775. Hugh Walsh married Catharine Armstrong . They had eight or nine children.
