Research Notes

Location Notes: New Kent County was formed from York County in 1654. It was served by Blisland County (1654-aft. 1785), St. Peter's Parish (1679-aft. 1785), St. John's Parish (1680-1691), and St. Paul's Parish (1704-1720).[5]

Estimated Birth: Born about 1668 in York County or New Kent County, Virginia.[6] An excerpt attached to Walton-307 says Edward of New Kent County was born ca. 1672 (but no source).[1]

Parents: Unknown.[1] The profiles attached as parents - Edward Walton, Sr. and Frances Elizabeth Napier - need sources. As of 17 March 2021, Sr and Jr had the same death date and mother Frances died before Edward was born.

"Warning: Check the data. A mother's death date (Napier-1371 died 1666) should not be before one of her children's birth dates (Walton-307 born 1668)."

Death date for Edward Walton-304 was changed to 1688, based on a footnote reference in Kerns,[1] and Frances Elizabeth Napier-1371 was detached as mother. ~ Noland-165 04:01, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

Son Robert: Kerns (page 10) lists a son Robert born about 1694, "probably in New Kent County". On page 11, it looks like Robert is said to probably be his son (it's a partial page).[1]

Son Edward: Another Edward Walton, baptized about 1719 (no source give), was listed as son of this Edward also, but his wife Elizabeth died in 1717.

Brother?: George Walton & Sarah Roper were married February ye — , 1710-11.[3]

Famous Descendant: This Edward Walton, Jr. is listed as ancestor of several notable people, including George Walton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Edward by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Edward:

Liz: Her (Napier) WikiTree profile notes she died "after 1666"; so this in itself does not confirm she is not the mother of Edward.

I've detached Elizabeth Booth as wife of Edward Walton-304. I have not found support for a Napier wife, but neither have I found anything to disprove that a Frances Elizabeth Napier existed and was his wife (really hard to prove a negative!).

Anyway, regardless of whether or not she was Edward Walton-304's wife, her profile says she died in 1666, so I'll be detaching her as mother of this Edward.

Liz,

This is a software issue on WikiTree. I list Napier-1371 as dying AFTER 1666; not in 1666. WikiTree reads AFTER as ON this date for some reason. Jim Miller

I've made that same argument Jim, but was told that if the child's birth is given as 1668, then we know he was living in or after 1667. Still, marking the error as false is an option, but you probably should explain in Research Notes (on both father/child) the nuances (along the lines of "we know he was living in 1666 [because...], and probably died sometime in 1667 after fathering the child who was born in 1668").

Cheers, Liz

well dang. I've been up too many hours with this Clean-a-Thon. It's not the father with "died after 1666" it's the mother. If her son was born in 1668, then you know she was living when she gave birth. One or the other of the dates needs to shift, and both dates should be explained in the text (i.e.,If 1666 is when she's in a record and therefore known to be alive, you should include that in the text; same with why birth of her son is given as about 1668).

Walton-7280 and Walton-307 appear to represent the same person because: Dates and places line up very closely.
