Sarah Walton married Wilkins Stone on 1 October 1835, in Lincoln County, Georgia.[1]
Sarah was living with her husband Wilkins Stone in Meriwether County, Georgia by 1840.[2]
Sarah and Wilkins Stone were living in Meriwether County, Georgia in 1850 and appear in the 1850 Federal census. Wilkins Stone's household appears as follows: Wilkins age 38; Sarah age 31; John S. age 11; Mary E. age 5; and William H. age 2.[3]
Sarah and Wilkins Stone were still living in Meriwether County, Georgia in 1860 with their five (5) children: John Thomas Stone born ca. 1839; Mary Stone born ca. 1846; William H. Stone born ca. 1848; Sarah A. Stone born ca. 1852; and Jesse Walton Stone born ca. 1855. [4]
Sarah was deserted by Wilkins Stone around 1866. Wilkins deserted Sarah and took the widow Annie/Anna Christina Kempson Herndon to Marion County Illinois. A search of records in Meriwether County, Georgia courthouse by Carol Wilder, did not locate any divorce records for Sarah and Wilkins Stone. A search of the marriage records did not locate any marriage records for Wilkins Stone and Annie Kempson Herndon. A search of the county tax records showed Wilkins Stone's land was in close proximity to the land owned by Annie Kempson Herndon.[5]
Sarah is listed as head of household in the 1870 Federal census in Meriwether County, Georgia. Sarah's age is given as 51, and her household is listed as follows: William age 23; Sarah age 18; Jessie age 15; and John age 1.[6]
Sarah is listed as head of household in the 1880 Federal census in Meriwether County, Geogia. Sarah's age is given as 63 and she is listed as having consumption. The only other person living in Sarah's household is her son Jesse Stone age 24.[7]
Sarah died the 26th December 1882, Meriwether County, Georgia, United States. Sarah's tombstone reads in part: "In Memory of Sarah Wife of Wilkin Stone . . ." [8]
