William Walwyn of Ruardean and Bickerton was the son of William Walwyn and his wife Joanna (or in one citation, Elizabeth) Greyndour, daughter of Sir John Greyndour +ca 1415. Joan is referred to as "Lady Joan Lichfield" at the time of the death of her half-brother's widow, Joan Rugge Greyndour Barre in 1484, as she had remarried Sir William Lichfield.[1]
"There is a good deal of confusion in the early part of the Walwyn pedigree and the version given in Burke's Commoners (possibly compiled by R. B. Phillipps) evidently repeats some of the generations twice over. According to the Atkyn's Glouc. the estate of Clearwell, which came to the Walwyns by the heiress of Grendour, left them with Alice, dau. and heir. of William Walwyn, on her marriage with Thomas Baynham. Their son, Sir Christopher Baynham, d 1540. The family of Walwyns had numerous junior branches, one of which was seated at Hollowood in M. Marcle." [2]
