James Ward 1861 – He lived in the township of Carlyle which is now Patea. He was in the Taranaki Military Settlers . His daughter Margaret married g grandmothers brother Daniel Hughes also of Carlyle.

His son John Patrick Ward was in the ForestRangers with Von Temptski and then entered the Armed Constabulary. James another son was in the Taranki Volunteers. John P painted a pro trail of his leader VonT and recently JP daily sold up in Auckland.
