Biography

Ella Ward married to William A. Johnstone in Franklin County, Indiana in the year 1877. William was the son of Thomas Johnstone and Mary Adelia Foster. ^[1]Ella's parents were likely Nancy Stoops, who appears with Ella in the 1870 census, and Alfred Ward, per an 1849 Franklin County marriage record for the couple (Nancy then married Richard J. Stoops in 1866). Ella (Ward) Johnstone and William were residing in Brookville, Indiana with a 2 year old daughter, Edith W. Johnsone, in the 1880 census. She and William were both listed as being 27 years old and born in Indiana in this record.^[2]The couple then resided in Lawrenceburg, Indiana for the remainder of their lives. Ella passed away in 1929.
