Jonathan Ward served with Essex County Militia, New Jersey Militia during the American Revolution.

From FInd A Grave: A Revolutionary War "Patriot". Jonathan Ward (born c1753 Westchester Co, NY), a Revolutionary War "Patriot" whose wife was Rachel Freeman, was mentioned briefly and shown on a graphic chart as a direct ancestor of Bill O'Reilly, descendant of Anna Ward Angevine, on "Finding Your Roots" on PBS Television (Season 3, Episode 2), Jan. 12, 2016. The information matches the Jonathan Ward who married Rachel Freeman and whose service was in Essex, N.J. Jonathan Ward received bounty land for service in 1833. In 1849, his widow Rachel received a government pension from the Albany office (U.S. Pensioners, 1818-1872 database).
